Better Battery Galaxy Wonder Gt-i850

Battery is one of the major concern of smartphones right now? But if you have high end phone like HTC One or Galaxy Note II this wasn't a major problem, i guess.

But mine, being considered a low activity device I badly need apps or do tweaks to make my phone life a bit longer.

On previous blog i discussed how do i use my phone in a regular basis.

Just a story..
Beforehand, with its stock GB my phone lasts about 1day and a half on a standby mode.
Heavy usage (3G,wifi,and other heavy stuff) make it last for 6-8 hours. Yes!6-8hours having its 1500mAh battery. Poor phone :/

After rooting and flashing a custom ROM (CM9 based ROM) for the first time. I find it really battery friendly. For me, that's true IF YOU WANNA HAVE A LONGER BATTERY LIFE TRY FLASHING A CUSTOM ROM :) Risk it, just backup everything nothing bad will happen and follow the OP instructions on how to install it. :)

First: How do I make my phone last for a day or 2?( No need for root techniques).

1. Turn off 3G when not in use or just simply turn off mobile data.

2. Use wifi than mobile data. I don't know the reason behind but i just find my battery lasts longer when i'm browsing using wireless connection.

3. Turn off GPS :) because as you all know majority of the apps we installed need your location, so even you don't use it, it continuously  search for your location.

4. Limit widgets. (but i love widgets) Just limit it, place there what do you really need.

5. Brightness! For me the most battery sucker of all :/ consuming too much energy. Turn it to how much you can tolerate. :)

6. I don't use vibration, it feels like it consumes much battery. Correct me if i'm wrong, So i'd rather turn my phone into silent mode or limit it's volume. :)

7. Install battery saving apps. :) Many many apps, just try to use all of them you will know what really works or not. But me, BatteryDoctor is my favorite. :D

8. Don't use live wallpapers. I know you love them, me too, I do. But if you want to conserve battery it's a big NO! It consumes too much energy, it doesn't allow your phone to sleep even screen is off.

9. Disable, background data. (whatttttt? how about facebook, how about twitter, my gmail) Again, this social networking apps consume our battery that much. By keeping you updated it keeps your phone awake. Even mobile data is off.

10. Camera! Yes we love our camera, i use it on my daily basis. But if you want to save your battery, you can still use it but NO FLASH :/

In CONCLUSION: If you want to make your battery last longer, Your Smartphone will never be a smartphone, all those good stuff they offer was the battery consumer. Ughhh.

With these method, my battery can last on stock Gingerbread for about 1 1/2- 2 days. Sorry no screenshot because just like in my previous post i'm using a custom ROM right now.

BUT IF YOU WANT LONGER BATTERY LIFE BY NOT PURCHASING A HIGH END PHONE, TRY FLASHING A CUSTOM ROM. Trust me! you'll be addicted. :)

UPDATED: How do i make my battery lasts?(Rooted ONLY!)

Warning: Don't try this if your phone wasn't rooted. It may SOFT BRICK/HARD BRICK or NO EFFECT at all.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES IT MAY CAUSE YOUR PHONE. DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

1. Battery Tweaks. There are a lot of build prop tweaks on XDA Forum that may suit what you need. But for battery tweaks this is what i use.

Go to Root Explorer or Browser
Go to System/etc
Look for build prop
Open it with text editor
Change the value or copy and paste it there.

Power save tweaks

ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=0 ---- enables a power savings mode (do not have more details yet)

wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=180 ----sets wifi scan interval in seconds. This sets it to scan for new wifi networks every 3 minutes. Does not effect a known connection.

pm.sleep_mode=1 ----enables a hibernation mode when phone screen is off

ro.mot.eri.losalert.delay=1000

If you want to add like Performance Tweaks, below is the URL for the other tweaks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401254

Note: I'm not a professional I just follow what stated in that link if you have too much to handle questions, please proceed to XDA forum. Thank you.

2. Install SlimBean Unofficial by Camcory.

Link:  http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2034647

This is the most battery saver custom ROM that i ever tried so far. Yes it is slim. Some system apps are deleted, just to make it a daily driver with VERY GOOD BATTERY LIFE.
It can last 6 DAYS.. of course on Airplane Mode and not touching much your phone literally. :) Try it to believe it. :)

3. Use One Power Guard App

It is free on the Play Store :)

Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.onexuan.battery&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5vbmV4dWFuLmJhdHRlcnkiXQ..

For us, using custom ROM this is the best Battery Saving App I can't live without. I always install this every time i flashed a new ROM. it never fails me.

What does it do?

It lets you choose a mode on how you want your phone to perform.
For battery saving: I use Standby Mode when I still want my phone to perform well and Power Save Mode when i'm about to sleep.

IT HELPS SAVE MY JUICES EVERY DROP OF IT. :)

4. Use Deep Sleep Batter Saver/ Pro

Link:  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rootuninstaller.batrsaver&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5yb290dW5pbnN0YWxsZXIuYmF0cnNhdmVyIl0.

There is a free version available in the market. So give it a shot.

How does it saves my battery?

Just simply letting your phone sleep. :)
There are many profiles that suit how do you want your phone to sleep.

Me, I always use Slumberer :) i just need my phone to last badly. :) and it does.

5. Use SetCPU

Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mhuang.overclocking&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5taHVhbmcub3ZlcmNsb2NraW5nIl0.

It simply controls your CPU depending on how you use your phone.
You can underclock it to save battery or simply overclock it for best performance.

6. Install Better Battery Stats

Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5hc2tzdmVuLmJldHRlcmJhdHRlcnlzdGF0cyJd

This App will let you see, which apps make your phone stay awake even when the screen is off.
Simply, it will show you what apps prevent your phone to go to deep sleep.

7. Titanium Backup

Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5rZXJhbWlkYXMuVGl0YW5pdW1CYWNrdXAiXQ..

This app lets you Freeze some apps that drain your battery. :) What apps drain your battery BETTER BATTERY STATS will tell you. :)

Well basically, these are all the things i personally installed on my ROOTED phone to make it last. Since I'm still having a battery drain issue with VeloxROM and still waiting for update. All this combinations give me a 1 1/2 day with light-moderate usage. Which is pretty good for me.

Again, thank you all for dropping by. You can personally message me for a CUSTOM ROM REVIEWS on our VERY WONDERFUL GALAXY WONDER.

Take Care everyone.

Galaxy W OS:  is running Gingerbread 2.3.6

Since i purchased this phone 2 years ago its Android Version is old enough for new developed apps i wanted to try.
Thru my curiosity and willingness to update this phone, i searched a lot on how to update my phone to the latest Jelly Bean 4.1.2. And that leads me to this site. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1477  (for the complete guide).

MY VELOXROM running 4.1.2 JellyBean REVIEW

Note: I love this ROM so much its my daily driver. I'm just here to state my personal experiences in using this ROM.

REMEMBER: Every smartphone (battery,APP) performances depend on the user.

Screenshots:

I'm using this ROM for 3weeks now, i guess enough for me to create my review.

I'm running the latest version of VeloxROM from miki2o.

You can download it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2171430

[ROM][JB]VeloxROM v3.3[12/04/2013][SMOOTH\OTA\GAMING\MEGA BOOST]

First: The Way It Looks

I love its UI, I love the small icons on APPS on STATUS BAR and NOTIFICATION DRAWER. I JUST LOVE THE WAY IT LOOKS.

Note: I'm using Neon Colors CM10 Theme

Download Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nitinvaid.theme.NeonColor&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5uaXRpbnZhaWQudGhlbWUuTmVvbkNvbG9yIl0.

Screenshot below:

SECOND: Gaming Performance I can't post a video in here, but then my experience was AWESOME! I play Subway Surfers, Temple Run 2, Angry Gran Run smoothly and no lag at all! Yeaahhh!
But i wasn't sure 3D/HD games run smoothly, my phone doesn't have enough memory for me to download heavy games. Sorry!:)

THIRD: Camera Quality/Resolution

Yes people! Camera works in VeloxROM because it is based on CM10 latest release, but still the green thingy annoyances still there when taking pictures. BUT THE SAVED pictures was okay.
Still nothing can beat the goodness in camera quality of stock GB on my wonder but i can use to it. Some third party apps give good resolution though. :)   Oh! VIDEO RECODING still doesn't work on latest VeloxROM. I'm still hoping in the next build or update, it will work :)

Screenshot: Before Capture                                 Saved Image :D (good quality a bit when saved)

FOURTH: Storage

SD Card is already swapped in this ROM. The External SD Card is used as the Internal Storage so if you have a huge SD card then it is basically what you need. :)

FIFTH: Mega Boost Sound

Miki2o added Awesome Beats in this ROM output in both speaker and headset are great. What more can i say i just love this ROM! :D

SIXTH: Is this ROM able to Deep Sleep?

Better Battery Stats will explain. :D
This screenshot was taken with Deep Sleep Pro which i currently installed :P  why i did this review with the help of other app? the answers are below :P

SEVENTH: Big Issue is the Battery for me.

I put this in the last section because i wanna be in-depth.

First thing: I'm mainly on light-moderate use of my phone.
Light-moderate use for me are as follows:

1. Wifi about 5-10 mins the whole day(yes!!!i rarely use wifi)
2. 3G off!( yes! i don't use mobile connection) My phone don't have life haha :P
3. Minimum brightness like less than 10% all day.
4. 5-10 Sent SMS per day (no MMS), 3-5 Calls (about 3 mins longest)
5. A 3-5 minute game per day (just when i have nothing to do, i'm a busy person) :)
6. Music Player about 30mins-1hour using headset only!
7. Not watching movie on my phone or browsing youtube videos or any videos at all.
8. Apps consist mainly of battery sucker Facebook, Instagram and some photo editor. (sorry i'm a girl) :)
9. Background data was set to NO PROCESSES AT ALL.
10. No synchronization.(just on when i'm trying to download thru Play Store :))
11.  My CPU Governor: is OnDemand Min: 245MHz Maximum: 806MHz (Oh GAMES are laggy in this setup)

And so this how my battery works:

As you can see i have 72.5% Deep Sleep but then i keep loosing juices every hour with no usage at all. They say that CastagnalIT kernel (the attached Kernel on the updated VeloxROM is a battery drain friendly) as i have read on XDA forum(but i forgot where is the forum located to show you).

I'm using Deep Sleep Pro on SLUMBERER PROFILE and One Power Guard on Standby Mode when i took this screen shot.

WHY DO I STILL USE OR STAY ON VELOXROM?

Because I LOVE THIS ROM, and the battery drain issue wasn't that huge since my phone can last a whole day without plugging it in. So for a smartphone to last that long is pretty good though.

TO GENERALIZE!

I love this ROM, although way before i was a fan of CM9 based ROM who gives me 3days battery life with my usual phone usage as stated above.
This ROM just suits my personality. The UI, the performance, Ijust love everything except the NOT ABLE TO RECORD VIDEO and BATTERY DRAIN ISSUE.

Either way i SALUTE the developer of this ROM. I can't thank him thru XDA because i'm not a developer and i can't post there. Anyhow if this blog come crossed to him.

THANK YOU Sir Miki2o :)

- Thanks for reading guys.
